Brooks bags double as 'Bottle claim title

Liam Brooks netted twice late in the second half to hand Shilbottle CW the Bay Plastics First Division title.

Shilbottle went ahead at Birtley Saint Josephs when Ross Straughan shot home in the 15th minute.

But two goals in two minutes from the hosts turned the game on its head.

James Ward levelled five minutes after Straughan's opener and Aaron McKewan put St. Joes in front soon after.

Matty Taylor equalised right on the stroke of half time.

Brooks gave Shilbottle the advantage in the 75th minute and after Ryan Moore was dismissed for St. Joe's, added his second to spark the celebrations in the 90th minute.

Battling Hebburn Reyrolle went ahead against 'Bottle's title rivals Newcastle University from the penalty spot.

It got worse for the Students - who had to win with  their game in hand - when they were reduced to ten men, but they conjoured up a leveller with five minutes to go - and then were left gutted as they had a late penalty appeal of their own waved away.
