Title race blown wide open

Keith Douglas' Newcastle University side blew the Bay Plastics First Division title race wide open with a last-gasp winner at leaders New Fordley tonight.

Fordley led twice but were left cursing a missed penalty, squandered chances and shot that cannoned out off the woodwork as the Students took their chances to win 3-2.

With two sides likely to be promoted this term (though it will all have to be decided at the League AGM) things are getting tight at the top of the table.

Both the Uni and Shilbottle CW have only played 15 games and will be looking to heap the pressure on top two New Fordley and Birtley Saint Josephs.

Ponteland United are also in with a shout and Felling Magpies could  have an impact, while sixth-placed Lindisfarne CP may run out of games.

Whatever happens, it's going to be interesting.
