Former Premier League star signs for Alliance side

He's played top-flight football at Liverpool,  Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers - now David Thompson has put pen to paper at Seaton Delaval.

The Red Devils announced the deadline day signing of the 38-year-old Scouser via the club's Twitter feed with boss Graeme Redpath saying that he was 'buzzing to finally capture such a high-profile player.'

Thompson scored five goals in 48 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League and made over 200 senior appearances in the professional game before a chronic cartilage problem in his knee forced him to hang up his boots.

His signing is a huge coup for both the club and the League and he is set to debut in a couple of weeks while fellow new signing Dan Mullen will go into the Delaval squad for their game at basement side Red House Farm in the Newcastle Building Society Premier Division tommorrow.
