Gateshead A suffer first defeat

It's been eighteen months since Gateshead A coach Micky Cummins has had his boots on - but the former Boro, Port Vale, Darlington, Rotherham and Grimsby ace had to play in the youngster's clash with Wallsend Labour.

Three games a week in the Northern Football Alliance and Football Conference Youth Alliance have seen the 'Heed U19s pick up a number of knocks and they were so short on numbers that the former Eire under 21 star found himself back in action on the International Stadium 3G pitch for the Bluefin Sports Insurance Second Division game.

No doubt the 37 year-old Dubliner will be feeling a bit stiff this morning.

Labour took the points and dished out a first defeat for the season for the black and whites with early goals from John Ransome and Kane Chirnside.

Cummins enjoyed being back on the pitch and felt Labour had played well, being hard to break down, and said that his young players would learn from the defeat.
